We had another great event last week! Our students presented their Individual Learning Projects to their friends, family, and supporters of our school. The students have been working on these projects all semester. Each semester, they choose a subject to research based on the broad topic. This semester’s topic was diseases, and, as always, the students’ research did not disappoint. The audience was taught so much new and interesting information about everything from rabies to scarlet fever to smallpox to tetanus.

One of New Community Academy’s strengths is an integrated and holistic approach to learning. Whenever possible, the subjects our students study overlap and our teachers integrate all the disciplines. This year in science, the students are learning about diseases and the immune system, so a perfect way to expand further on this learning was to have their research projects for the semester reflect this topic. Our teaching focuses on problem solving and critical thinking skills that will serve our students well as they become adults.

We are thankful for our supporters who were present at the event to cheer the students on. And we are thankful for each one of our students who has worked so hard this semester on these projects. Please take a moment and browse through some of the photos of the day.
