Betsy Parada, Math Teacher at New Community Academy

In our third installment of our “Meet the Team” series, we are thrilled to introduce you to the lovely and talented Betsy Parada. Betsy joined the New Community faculty during the 2015 school year, and her gentle and loving spirit has been putting students’ math fears at ease ever since. She has a wonderful calming presence and a lifelong love for learning. She is our students’ biggest fan and cheerleader through every struggle overcome and every victory achieved. We are so blessed to have her in our New Community family. We interviewed Betsy recently to give you a little glimpse into why she is so beloved among students, parents, and NCA staff alike.

Tell us about why you wanted to become a teacher:

Since my children were in pre-school, I have helped with their teachers. I learned a lot from them through their enthusiasm and dedication with the students. When I was given the opportunity to work in New Community Academy, it was a blessing to me to be part of the teaching staff here.

Where did you get your degree and what did you study?

I studied Public Relations and Communications, and I got my degree in my home country El Salvador. I have been taking math class in Mt. San Antonio College and other classes that are provided by Pomona district to continue my education and enrichment.

What drew you to New Community Academy?

I attended at Purpose Church where I learned about New Community Academy, and later on I was given the opportunity to be part of the school. I knew that is where I should be, and I’m so thankful for that opportunity.

What most excites you about this school year?

I’m quite excited for new challenges with the new students. The most exciting part is that I can help them in the learning process. I love helping students achieve victories in math!

Tell us something we might not know about you:

I like to taste all kinds of food and if I like it, I add it to my home menu.

What do you like to do for fun outside the classroom?

I love to hang out and laugh with my coworkers and students.
